Project Description

Hornsea 2 is a 1,386 MW offshore wind farm located in the North Sea, approximately 89 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast. The project became fully operational in August 2022 and was, at the time of completion, the world's largest operational offshore wind farm. It generates enough clean electricity to power over 1.4 million UK homes.

The wind farm spans an area of 462 square kilometres in water depths ranging from 25 to 35 metres. It comprises 165 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW and a rotor diameter of 167 metres.

The project connects to the UK grid via a 220 kV export cable system landing at Killingholme in North Lincolnshire. Hornsea 2 is part of the wider Hornsea Zone development, which includes the operational Hornsea 1 (1,218 MW) and planned Hornsea 3 (2,852 MW) projects.
